DIY Mass Spectrometry

Intro:  Times are tough, and money is scarce.  Grant money is rare and investor money is almost non existent, so funding an HPLC or MS service contract can often be difficult to impossible.  However, if you are like us we enjoy doing it ourselves.  Even if you have a service contract sometimes fixing the problem yourself can get you back up and running in a shorter amount of time. It is not uncommon to wait an entire week for a service engineer to show up.  Yes, we know, the MS companies guarantee a 3 day response, but how often do they meet that mark?  Yes, tell us, how often?  We will post that survey.

We are asking our readers to contribute their DIY or "How I fixed that" stories. Show us what a genius you are. We know we are proud when we fix something. Share your story with the world.   Pictures are appreciated but text only stories are fine also.  Send your stories to webmaster@ionsource.com  In your story you should include the symptom of the problem, and just how you fixed it.  HPLC, and capillary HPLC, and mass spectrometry stories are all appropriate.  Some of our favorite stories are HPLC plumbing stories.  In addition you may be helping someone else by telling your story.  You can promote yourself, or remain anonymous.

Remember not to do anything that will void your service contract.
